WILLIAM BLAKE 

One of the most famous Romantic’s, a 19th century writer and artist. When he was a child, he excelled in art and engraving. He was sent to Westminister Abbey where he made drawings of the tombs and monuments, this is where his love for gothic art began.

Blake’s inspiration for his illustrations and art often came form his visions. When he was 10 he believed he had a vision of seeing the prophet Ezekiel under a tree and he had a vision of a tree filled with angels. Another vision was in 1787 when his brother had died. He allegedly saw his spirit ascend. When his visions where put into practice with his art and poems, most critics at the time rejected it and found them to be gibberish or exaggerated. The time period Blake was in didn’t appreciate such imagination or expression.
